Cornell Cinema is thrilled to reopen its doors for in-person screenings in the beautiful Willard Straight Theatre this Fall. So thrilled, in fact, that we’re making all August shows FREE (screenings will only be open to CU students from August 24–31)! Other members of the Cornell community are invited to join us starting September 1. We hope to be able to welcome the general public starting in late September or early October, and will do so as soon as University policy permits.
As in previous years, we’ll offer An Orientation to Cornell Cinema, a program that will feature lots of coming attractions trailers, the inside scoop on special events, information on how to become involved with the organization, and chances to win door prizes like t-shirts, movie posters and guest passes. We’ll even give away one of our semester-long All-Access Passes, which is good for admission to all regularly-priced screenings this Fall, close to 75 different films!
Please come and acquaint or reacquaint yourself with our special space and our eclectic offerings, including recent animated hits such as Raya and the Last Dragon and Soul, classic Hollywood fare like Casablanca (1942) and Vertigo (1958), cult films like The Big Lebowski and Scott Pilgrim vs the World, and more. August concludes with Songs My Brothers Taught Me (2015), the debut feature of Chloé Zhao, who recently took home Academy Awards for Best Director & Best Picture for Nomadland (showing in September; her sophomore feature, The Rider, screens in October).
Get Out and Moonrise Kingdom are cosponsored with the Welcome Weekend Committee, and New Student Programs is the cosponsor of our entire August line-up.
Please note: even though the films are free, we highly recommend reserving your free seat in advance by visiting our ticketing site.
