The Rider
Brady Blackburn (Brady Jandreau) was once a rising rodeo star before an accident left him with permanent brain damage. Now riding, the one thing he once took solace in, poses a serious threat to his life.
Living in poverty with his father and sister on the Pine Ridge Sioux Reservation, Brady must find a way to get by without his passion, and to redefine himself now that he is unable to do what he loves. All the while, he must resist the temptation to take the ultimate risk by getting back in the saddle.
A somber look at life in South Dakota’s Native American community, The Rider won the Art Cinema Award when it was first released at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. The actors playing the family are actually biologically related, each playing a fictionalized version of themselves. Director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) uses this unique blend of reality and fiction to bring to life a “poetic, laconic and ineffably beautiful drama.” (Wall Street Journal)
