Get Involved
Cornell Cinema is a great place to see films, but it's also a great place to work, volunteer, suggest movie titles or cosponsor film series, or become involved in other ways!
Paid Employment
Cornell Cinema hires Box and Concessions Officers, House Managers, Projectionists, Office Assistants and more! Paid positions can be held by Cornell University students, and require Work-Study or some other wage subsidy scholarship (Cornell Tradition, for instance). Paid employees receive a Comp Pass for two to all regular screenings.
Anyone interested in working for the Cinema is encouraged to fill out an application whether or not there are specific positions available. Applications are kept on file for the academic year.
Volunteer Ushering
Not a Cornell student, or you don't have Work-Study, or you just love to volunteer and want to be involved in the Cinema? Be a Volunteer Usher! Ushers work one night a week (for two films). They assist with set up, rip tickets, watch the film, and clean up at the end of the night – and, beside a free uniform (a snazzy Cinema Staff T-Shirt), the use of our industrial-strength flashlight and our unending gratitude, Ushers receive a Comp Pass for two to all regular screenings.
Please fill out our Employment Application, noting evenings you are generally available, and drop it by the office.
Student Advisory Board
The Cornell Cinema Student Advisory Board is an organization of students, both undergraduate and graduate, whose purpose is to represent and promote Cornell Cinema, as well as to advise and assist Cornell Cinema in its overall mission to offer the Cornell and greater Ithaca community a wide variety of cinematic and media experiences, for both educational and entertainment purposes. Specific committees work on promotion, event planning and execution, and programming.
Suggest a Film
The Willard Straight Theatre has a suggestion box where patrons can suggest titles for upcoming calendars or make other suggestions. We can't promise we'll take the suggestions, but we can promise we'll read them!
