Our three Oscar Shorts programs are still available! A bundle of all three programs costs just $30 ($12 each when purchased separately), and there’s still plenty of time before the Academy Awards ceremony on April 25 to watch and make your picks for the winners.
We open Fandango at the Wall today, with a panel discussion taking place Tues, April 27. You can register for both at the following Eventbrite link.
The other film opening today is a new restoration of Soleil Ô, Mauritanian director Med Hondo’s radical, anti-colonial opus that feels just as refreshingly provocative today as it did 50 years ago. Do not miss it!
And reservations open for a whole slew of films: a new restoration of Joyce Chopra’s Sundance-winning Smooth Talk, starring a teenage Laura Dern; a recent documentary about a Chinese conceptual artist attempting to connect with his Alzheimer’s-afflicted father via a unique theatrical piece, Our Time Machine (pictured); and The Spy Behind Home Plate, a documentary about Moe Berg, a Jewish baseball catcher who joined the OSS in WWII to spy on Nazis. The Spy Behind Home Plate is available for a shorter window (Tue, 4/27 @ 7pm through Thur, 4/29 @ 7pm), but we have an unlimited number of tickets available for this one! Plus, we’ll be co-hosting a Q&A w/filmmaker Aviva Kempner, moderated by Elliot Shapiro (Jewish Studies) on Thurs, April 29 at 7:30pm (register for the discussion here).
Finally, we’ve received lots of requests to show Minari, so we’re thrilled to be able to announce two timed screenings of the film: May 1 & 2 (start watching anytime between 7:30 & 11:30pm). We’re opening reservations today, so don’t delay! Please note: you will need to select which date you want to view the film, so choose carefully. And since we’re expecting a lot of interest, please only reserve a ticket if you’re reasonably sure you can actually view the film on the day you select. We’re grateful to our cosponsors who have made this screening possible: the Asian American Studies Program and the Society for Asian American Graduate Affairs.
