Francophone Film Festival Highlights Week

Hope you enjoyed Fall Break!

We reopen Wednesday, kicking off our Francophone Film Festival with CHEZ JOLIE COIFFURE. On Thursday at 5:30pm, we'll host a free reception for the festival, courtesy of Romance Studies, followed by a free screening of MARIANNES NOIRES, courtesy of the French Studies Program. The absolutely wild, gender-bending menace of THE WILD BOYS (pictured) screens as part of the festival, as does Claire Denis' HIGH LIFE. While technically speaking HIGH LIFE is  Denis' English-language debut, the film is just too good to not include in the festival. Check out our Francophone series page for all the other excellent films screening through November 10th, most of which will include an introduction.

We also kick off our Cinematic Cities series this Wednesday with a screening of Vittorio De Sica's BICYCLE THIEVES. And we present our first screening of the epic eight-hour masterpiece, Sergei Bondarchuk's WAR AND PEACE, on Sunday! This 1966 adaptation of Tolstoy's great novel had a virtually unlimited budget, and features authentic props and costumes borrowed from Russia's great museums, and thousands of extras from the Soviet army! It's an absolutely must-see on the big screen, especially since being digitally restored. Chapter I screens Sunday and will be repeated on November 3rd as part of a marathon screening of the entire film!

Oh, and we just so happen to be showing a certain smash-hit called THE FAREWELL, screenings that are cosponsored with the Chinese Students Association. Get your tickets early for this one (you can reserve your All-Access Pass tickets as well as purchase regular tickets!). These screenings are going to be packed.
