Film series: Stop-Motion Sundays

Calling all animation fans! This spring, Cornell Cinema invites you to explore the remarkable art of stop-motion animation through a series of Sunday matinees.
Stop-motion is an animation technique in which material objects are manipulated and photographed in tiny increments to create the illusion of movement when played in a sequence. It is a painstaking process and can take months for animators to create even a minute of continuous animation. Stop-motion also requires remarkable and imaginative world-building because teams of artists must physically create the characters to be manipulated and build the dynamic worlds they inhabit.
Our family-friendly Cornell Cinema series aims to highlight a range of distinctive stop-motion animation styles. It features some of the leading studios in the world — including LAIKA (U.S.), the creators of Coraline, and Aardman Animations (U.K.), creators of Wallace & Gromit — and the work of stop-motion auteurs like the legendary Henry Selick, Wes Anderson, and Claude Barras. It also includes what is thought to be the first-ever animated film, The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1932), which feature luminous, paper cutouts animated by German artist Lotte Reiniger.
We hope you will join us to experience these incredible worlds meticulously brought to life by human hands for your enjoyment. Featuring:
