The Tale of Princess Kaguya

Japan’s most famous folktale gets the royal treatment in this hand-drawn masterwork from Studio Ghibli cofounder Isao Takahata.

A tiny princess, only the size of a finger, is discovered amongst some bamboo. As the teensy Princess Kaguya grows older, larger, and wiser, she meets many suitors, including the Emperor of Japan, whom she challenges to prove their affections by completing a series of near-impossible tasks.
