Opening Friday March 19 is, in our humble opinion, the best Wong Kar Wai film: Happy Together. Taking the swooning romanticism of In the Mood for Love and marrying it with the nostalgia of a relationship at its end, and the uncertainty surrounding the British handover of Hong Kong, Happy Together features superstars Tony Leung and Leslie Cheung as a couple traveling through Argentina as they break up, make up, and fall apart again and again. Highly recommended!
We’re also opening a new restoration of Fellini’s La Strada, starring his wife and muse Giulietta Masina. 2021 is Masina’s 100th birth year, so it's the perfect time to catch the film that launched both her and her husband into international stardom. Act soon as we only have a handful of views left!
The River and The Wall opens Fri Mar 19, but we've already sold-out of views for this excellent border documentary. You can still register here, though, for the panel discussion about The River and The Wall, happening Tuesday, March 23 at noon. The panel will feature Cornell alumna and ecologist Heather Mackey ’10 (who appears in the film), Debra Castillo (Hispanic Studies, Comp Lit), Sergio Garcia-Rios (Government, Latina/o Studies), and will be moderated by John W. Kennedy (PhD candidate, Romance Studies).
Reservations are now open for the following titles: Crutch, a fantastic new doc about breakdancer, skate punk, and artist Bill "Crutch" Shannon (pictured); The Hand, an expanded cut of Wong Kar Wai’s little-seen featurette and the last film in our WKW series; and By the Grace of God, François Ozon’s nuanced account of a Catholic sex abuse scandal in Lyon, part of our Francophone Film Festival.
