String-pulled cowboy, Woody (Tom Hanks), has always been Andy’s favorite, but action figure Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) threatens to supplant him, until a crisis forces them to work together.
Pixar’s first feature-length film—the first completely computer-animated film—changed the playing field, besides doing boffo box office. Critics were bowled over by the animation, as Roger Ebert wrote, “[It] achieves a three-dimensional reality and freedom of movement that is liberating and new.” Combining the eternal fantasy of toys having their own hidden lives with a buddy story, great voice work, and a sunny Randy Newman score, Toy Story is a perennial classic.
Toy Story was Disney’s first collaboration with Pixar Animation Studio and the studio’s first feature-length film.
