Project Hail Mary: New Student Movie Night!

Cornell Cinema is delighted to welcome new Cornell students for a special Orientation Week screening of Project Hail Mary (2026)! 

Before the film, you can enjoy a sneak preview of films and series on offer this fall, participate in a friendly movie trivia competition, and learn more about how you can get involved with the cinema during your time at Cornell.

Free popcorn will be provided, and we’ll be raffling off prizes like movie tickets, All-Access Passes, and Cornell Cinema swag. We can’t wait to see you there!

About the film

In this dazzling sci-fi comedy directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, a high school science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up alone on a spaceship, light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. 

As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance that is causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.

Based on the titular science fiction novel by Andy Weir, Project Hail Mary is an irresistible interstellar adventure, discovery, and survival, anchored by a heartful performance from Ryan Gosling.
