The Outrun

Based on the best-selling memoir by Amy Liptrot, The Outrun is a powerful drama about hope, survival, and the healing power of nature and community on the path to recovery.

The film centers on Rona, a 29-year-old former PhD student, who is fresh our of rehab, having spent more than a decade living life on the edge in London and struggling with alcohol use disorder. Rona returns to the Orkney Islands — a wildly beautiful but isolated place off the coast of northern Scotland. As she reconnects with the dramatic landscape where she grew up, memories of her traumatic childhood merge with more recent challenging events that have set her on the path to recovery. As she attempts come to terms with her troubled past, Rona finds unexpected support, inspiration, and a sense of renewed purpose from within her island community.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with representatives from local community organizations that are providing recovery support service across our region.
