Mary Poppins
This dazzling live-action with animation remains timeless with its boisterous chimney sweeps, table-waiting penguins, and kite-flying family.
P.L. Travers finally consented to Disney adapting her novels of a “practically perfect” magical nanny. Julie Andrews sparkles in her film debut as Mary, whose magical touch mends a broken family, and has a great partner in the slapstick and winsome Dick Van Dyke.
Nominated for 13 Oscars, the film scored five, including Best Actress for Andrews as well as special effects, editing, score (the Sherman brothers) and best song (Chim Chim Cher-ee).
