Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom

A courtroom scene with four men standing in the foreground, one raising a fist, and several individuals seated at a table in the background, dressed in black robes.

“It wasn’t politics that liberated a nation, it was love.”

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom celebrates Nelson Mandela’s extraordinary journey from his childhood in a rural village to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa. It explores the Mandela unknown to most of the world — the lover of fancy cars, a ladies’ man, the boxing enthusiast and playboy, the skillful lawyer and freedom fighter. Directed by Justin Chadwick and starring Idris Elba, the film is an intimate portrait of the making of a modern icon, based on Nelson Mandela's titular biography.
