Exhibition Opening — Inspired by Edith Head: Fashion Vignettes for a Film Series
Please join us to celebrate the opening of the exhibition “Inspired by Edith Head: Fashion Vignettes for a Film Series,” on view at the Jill Stuart Gallery from December 3-23, 2024.
This exhibition is the culmination of a semester-long partnership between the Cornell Fashion + Textile Collection (CF+TC) and Cornell Cinema celebrating the work of Edith Head, one of the most prolific and celebrated costume designers in Hollywood history.
The exhibition features a series of fashion vignettes curated from the CF+TC as well as original designs by Mia Bachrack ’25. Drawing inspiration from five classic films, each vignette offers a closer look at Edith Head’s expressive approach to costuming and illuminates the compelling design decisions that unfold on screen in each film.
The exhibition is curated by Mia Bachrack ’25 and Sophia Peck ’26 in collaboration with Catherine Blumenkamp, Associate Director of the CF+TC, and Molly Ryan, Director of Cornell Cinema.
All are welcome and refreshments will be served! The event will take place at the Jill Stuart Gallery, Human Ecology Building (37 Forest Home Drive, Ithaca, NY 14853), Terrace Level, on Wednesday, December 4, 4:30-6pm.
The opening reception will precede the final film in our "Costumes by Edith Head" film series: Cecil B. DeMille's SAMSON AND DELILAH (1949), which screens on Wednesday, December 4, at 7:00pm.
