Double Feature: Sleepaway Camp + Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma
Join Cornell Cinema for a special summer camp horror double feature!
We are excited to present a new 4K restoration of Sleepaway Camp (1983) alongside Jane Schoenbrun’s unconventional horror remake Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (2026).
Directed by Robert Hiltzik, Sleepaway Camp is no ordinary slasher film… From its grisly special effects to its fashionable short-shorts, from its nihilistic vibe to the truly unforgettable climax, it’s an all-time cult classic. After a boating accident kills her family, shy Angela (played by the iconic Felissa Rose) moves in with her eccentric Aunt Martha. Angela and her cousin Ricky are sent to Camp Arawak for the summer, where bizarre and violent accidents begin claiming the lives of campers.
Has a dark secret returned from the camp’s past, or will another unspeakable horror end the summer season for all? According to Annie Choi of the horror mag Bleeding Skull, “This is a film that has not only stood the test of time but has also slaughtered it with a glimmering blade in a cabin shower.”
Visionary director Jane Schoenbrun (I Saw the TV Glow, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair) presents a new kind of horror remake in Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Bursting with imagination and surreal wit, their latest genre-bending wonder affirms there’s no such thing as a guilty pleasure.
After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is due for resurrection. And one young director (Hannah Einbinder) is more than up to the task. But when she visits the original's star, a now-reclusive actress (Gillian Anderson), the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, delirium — under threat from the spear-wielding Little Death.
Winner of the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, Shoenbrun’s imaginative homage to the summer camp slasher genre leads its protagonists to true fulfillment, encouraging us to ask how we can reach our own. The first step? Facing your fears—and fantasies.
