Apocalypse Now Redux
Francis Ford Coppola
Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando, Dennis Hopper

On every greatest-films-of-all-time list, Apocalypse Now takes Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness and its contemplation of madness and evil and recasts the story in Vietnam, as a captain travels deep into the jungle to “terminate with extreme predjudice” the renegade Colonel Kurtz. This Redux version not only added 49 minutes of footage, including new scenes with Marlon Brando and a sequence at a French plantation; it also amped up the color and the sound, making the physical experience of the film even more profound. “The place to see it is in a movie theatre, sitting not too far back, your eyes and ears filled with its haunting vision.” (Rogert Ebert)

“The soundtrack to Francis Ford Coppola’s 1979 Vietnam epic is probably most commonly remembered for its iconic uses of ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ and The Doors’ ‘The End.’ But behind these moments of inspired synchronization lies an impressive and imposing synth-driven soundtrack created, for the most part, by Coppola himself and his composer father Carmine.” (musicradar.com)
