In this animated coming-of-age story, a young Canadian poet of biracial heritage is invited to perform at a Poetry Festival in Shiraz, Iran, even though she’d rather go to Paris. She lives at home with her over-protective Chinese grandparents and has never been anywhere by herself. Once in Iran, she finds herself in the company of poets and Persians, all who tell her stories that force her to confront her past; the Iranian father she assumed abandoned her and the nature of poetry itself. “In the film’s finest moments, as a generous Iranian host explains traditional Farsi poetry, the animation and the themes mingle and explode in a riot of cross-cultural colour as the stringy Canadian cartoon meets gorgeously rendered illustrations—and personifications—of Persian traditions.” (The Globe and Mail) Recommended for ages 7+.
