It’s 1971, and Nora (Marie Leuenberger), a quiet, dutiful, young housewife, lives in a small Swiss village where the social upheavals of the 1960s are yet to be felt, and the issue of women’s suffrage is far from anyone’s mind. That all starts to change when Nora begins to organize and campaign publicly for women’s right to vote. Despite backlash from her community and the disapproval of her husband, Nora becomes the face of the suffragette movement in her village, and with growing support from unlikely allies, spearheads a women’s strike in pursuit of liberation and equality—in both the voting booth and the bedroom. Switzerland’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar. “A fierce, fiery film that should be seen by anyone who feels helpless in the ongoing struggle for equality.” (Film Inquiry)
