New Students get in for FREE 8/24—8/28

featuring Harold Lloyd’s The Freshman with live accompaniment on August 25
and a free Orientation to Cornell Cinema on August 26

Cornell Cinema is considered one of the best campus film exhibition programs in the country, and for five days in August, we encourage all new students to sample the wide variety of films we show by offering free screenings. Featuring classics like Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless, Stanley Kubrick’s black comedy Dr. Strangelove: or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, and Pedro Almodóvar’s colorful romp Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, these first days of the semester offer a great introduction to the world of cinema. There’s also a screening of Harold Lloyd’s 1925 silent comedy classic The Freshman, with a live improvised piano score by Dr. Philip Carli, one of the most respected silent film accompanists in the world! And on Tuesday the 26th, we will host a special Orientation to Cornell Cinema, with free popcorn, great short films, door prizes, movie trailers, and info on how to get involved.

Films are free Sunday, August 24 through Thursday, August 28 for new students with Cornell ID. Regular prices are just $4 for students, or $35 for a 10-admission discount card, valid for one full year—that’s just $3.50 a ticket! Tickets and cards can be purchased at the theatres in the evenings—the Willard Straight Theatre accepts Cornell Card!—and at the Willard Straight Hall Ticket Desk (which takes credit cards and Cornell Cards) during the day.
