An Elegant Winter Party
and Benefit for Cornell Cinema
Dreams Rewired and Dancing!
Sat Mar 19 @ 7:30pm • Willard Straight Memorial Room
Support your favorite repertory cinema and swing into spring at Cornell Cinema’s annual fundraising event! Don your favorite party attire for this early technology-driven extravaganza, which will feature an Interactive Exhibition of Obsolete Media Technologies and Early Cinema Devices, a photo op in a life-size cutout painting from George Méliès’ A Trip to the Moon, and a Dance through the Decades dance party! In the background the fantastic new film, Dreams Rewired, by Austrian filmmaker Manu Luksch, will be screening (sound off & subtitles on). It’s a treasure trove of rare archival footage culled from hundreds of films from the 1880s through the 1930s—excerpts from early dramatic films, slapstick comedies, political newsreels, advertisements and recordings of scientific experiments—that reveal that early electric media were as revolutionary as social media are now. With clips from over 200 films, the material is by turns hilarious, revelatory, beautiful and prescient. Also on hand: a cash bar, complimentary snacks & desserts, and more!
Advance tickets are $25 general /$15 students, and are available now at CornellCinemaTickets.com. Door sales will be $35 general / $25 students. Please note: Dreams Rewired will also be shown Sun Mar 20 at 7pm (with Tilda Swinton’s voiceover and Siegfried Friedrich's score) for regular ticket prices.
