featuring three guest scientist speakers!
Cornell Cinema is pleased to present two Ithaca premieres with ties to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, both with urgent environmental messages. First up is Racing Extinction (2015), for which Oscar®-winner Louie Psihoyos (The Cove) worked with Lab of Ornithology scientist Dr. Christopher Clark to expose issues of endangered species and mass extinction. It will be shown for free with Dr. Clark on hand for a post-screening Q & A. The Messenger travels the globe to explore the causes of songbird decline—including window collisions, domestic cats, songbird poaching, habitat fragmentation, climate change and the emerging problem of neonicotinoid pesticides—and features local scientist Bill Evans and scientist Andrew Farnsworth from the Lab of Ornithology, both of whom will be present at the April 10th screening of the film. The Lab is the film’s U.S. outreach partner. The Cayuga Bird Club will host an informal reception following the April 10 screening of The Messenger.
