films tonight

The theatre will be decked out in playing cards of various shapes and sizes to create the perfect atmosphere for screenings of collage artist Lewis Klahr's The Pettifogger, about a year in the life of a gambler and con man circa 1963, during the cocktail hour (7:30pm), and then a beautiful 40th anniversary print of The Sting, starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford, as the feature presentation (9pm). The tale of a couple of con men, the film won an incredible seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Newman and Redford are joined by the late actor Harold Gould, who earned two graduate degrees in theater at Cornell (M.A. '48, Ph.D. '53), before going on to a successful career on Broadway and in Hollywood. Along with the more glamorous Oscars, the film earned awards for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, and Best Music.

We highly recommend purchasing your tickets in advance, and, if possible, picking them up in advance from our office! Otherwise, they will be held for you at the will call table on March 2nd. If you can't make it, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to Cornell Cinema.
