Made in the style of a 70s documentary, but structured like a classic Hollywood musical (think Busby Berkeley), Jim Finn's wacky mock documentary about a secret space project in the early 1970s has to be seen to be believed. The project was an attempt by East German cosmonauts and their allies to establish socialist colonies on the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and Jim Finn captures this little know piece of history with fake archival footage, beautiful miniature sets, recreated photos of cosmonauts in training, a space capsule interior, voice transmissions from the cosmonauts in space, guinea pigs (!!) and a fabulous soundtrack of original music and songs inspired by 70s German pop and international communist songs. "What a delight! How charming and fantastic, so full of rare atmospheres." (Guy Maddin, director of The Saddest Music in the World). With special guest: filmmaker Jim Finn.
