"There is no art without conflict." Eisenstein's statement is epitomized in this film about a mutiny during the 1905 Russian Revolution. Using a rapid-fire editing technique called montage, Eisenstein created a film that is spontaneous, dynamic and carefully structured. The massacre on the Odessa steps is one of the most amazing sequences in film history. " A strikingly beautiful banner of revolution, The Battleship Potemkin is the greatest cinematic realization of militant art." (Cinema, The Magic Vehicle) The film will be accompanied by a live performance by the Austin-based group, Golden Arm Trio, featuring Graham Reynolds, who composed the score for Battleship as well as for the recent A Scanner Darkly. An opening set will be performed by local band, Tristero. Cosponsored with the Fan Club Collective and the Cornell Concert Commission. More at www.grahamreynolds.com
