Professor and author Alison Lurie (English) introduces the Alice on Screen series at Oct 29 show
A rarely-seen version of Lewis Carroll's topsy-turvy tales (like most film adaptations, it includes parts of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking Glass), featuring a parade of stars from Paramount Pictures' early talkie era. Mostly live-action, except for a wonderful animated sequence of The Walrus and The Carpenter, done by Max Fleischer Studios (several years prior, of course, to Disney's first animated feature, Snow White) Delightful star portrayals include W.C. Fields as Humpty Dumpty, Gary Cooper as the White Knight, and Cary Grant as the Mock Turtle. 35mm
