There is approximately one rat for
every person in New York City. In this funny and offbeat documentary,
several residents share their experiences of cohabiting with
the ubiquitous creature. Filmmaker Mark Lewis' camera follows
rats into sewers, below subways, inside walls, under sinks, and
overhead in order to provide us with a better understanding of
how and why the rat has such a tenacious hold on NYC's uptown,
downtown, and crosstown. Engaging interviews and inventive sequences
of rat movement make this a rare and entertaining work of natural
history. Special Jury award, Telluride Mountain Film Festival;
Silver Spire- Golden Gate Awards, San Francisco Film Festival.
Directed by Mark Lewis. 1998, 58 min.
