Ascher, Anthropology
A young boy's idyllic life is forever
changed when an oil refinery arrives in his rural Louisiana town
in this award-winning film by acclaimed director Robert Flaherty.
Flaherty's superb eye captures the differences between the raw
beauty of the bayou and the dirt, steel, and smoke of the drilling
platforms. A virtuosic meditation on man's relationship to the
environment, made all the more fascinating because it was financed
by a major oil company. This beautifully restored 35mm print
is not to be missed.
