Beetlemania is a fascinating documentary
about the strongest creature on earth: the beetle. Inhabiting
the earth for three hundred million years, they've been around
since well before the dinosaur and they now make up approximately
one out of every four animals on earth. This excellent introduction
to the legendary bug is filled with information about the beetle
and stocked with extraordinary nature photography. The film
shows how these insects, perhaps the most diverse creatures on
our planet, play the roles of entertainers, physicians, and even
dinner in some parts of the world. Best TV Programme; Best Science
Film; Best Use of Music; and seven Merit Awards at the International
Wildlife Film Festival, Missoula, Montana 1997. Directed by Nick
Upton, 1996, 50 min.
This screening made possible in part by the generosity
of the National Geographic Society
