Two beautiful animated films by master illustrator Frederic Back. The Man Who Planted Trees, based on Jean Giono's classic story, tells the tale of an old shepherd who chooses to devote the rest of his life planting and nurturing a forest of a thousand trees, singlehandedly turning his arid surroundings into a thriving oasis. Winner of an Academy Award and a Parent's Choice Award. The Mighty River traces the history of the majestic St. Lawrence River from its early use by native people to the present day. Colors, forms, and images flow seamlessly together, blended with poetic narration and evocative music. Narrated by Donald Sutherland. Academy Award Nominee for Best Short Animated Film. 1987 & 1993, total running time 54 min.
