The site for the new Getty Center - now majestic in its mountain setting above a major Los Angeles freeway - presented huge obstacles to the renowned modernist architect, Richard Meier, and his partners who had to preserve the character of the surrounding landscape and relate it to the building. Concert of Wills, twelve years in the making, chronicles the conception, design, and construction of the Getty Center, beginning when Getty Trust President Harold Williams hired Richard Meier. The film exposes the problems and reveals the historical context for the project and the characters of the people involved. By Susan Froemke, Albert Maysles, and Bob Eisenhardt.

Reception in Willard Straight Art Gallery Following the Screening

This screening is made possible with the support of Cornell Cinema and the Department of Architecture.
