Affluenza explores the epidemic of shopping, overwork, stress and debt that is infecting Americans in record numbers. Using hilarious old film clips, personal stories, expert commentary and "uncommercial" breaks, Affluenza traces the historic roots of the disease and explores the advertising and marketing ploys designed to sustain it. The film also documents how Americans are opting out of the consumer chase and making "voluntary simplicity" one of the biggest trends of the 1990s. Produced by John de Graaf and Vivian Boe, in association with KCTS. 1997, 56 min.

This screening is made possible with the support of The Center for Responsible Ethics and Social Policy and The Alternatives Library
