Crash

directed by Paul Haggis

with Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Sandra Bullock, Brendan Fraser, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Larenz Tate

Similar to Paul Thomas Anderson's Magnolia in narrative structure, Crash offers an in-depth look at 24 hours of life in Los Angeles, following an amalgamation of White, Black, Latino, and Asian characters as they both dodge and dish out the racial slurs. A crooked cop (Dillon), a well-to-do Hollywood set (Bullock and Fraser), and a pair of armed robbers (Ludacris and Tate) are all forced to interact—however violently—and come to terms with their callousness and mutual hatred. While the characters "crash" into each other and the film progresses, Haggis (who wrote Million Dollar Baby) shows how their racial intolerance and general distaste colors every aspect of their lives. Winner of the 2005 Best Motion Picture Oscar. Video projection.
