Samuel L. Jackson plays Lazarus, a righteous blues musician and vegetable
farmer who, upon finding the battered and practically nude Christina Ricci
on his property, decides that he has been called to cure her hysterical
nymphomania by chaining her to his radiator until she is healed. This steamy
tale of lust, spit, and redemption from Hustle & Flow director
Craig Brewer slinks along to a remarkable soundtrack, which features old-time
blues music from the Fat Possum Records catalog. Ricci and Timberlake give
stellar performances, but the film belongs to Jackson, who believes this
to be his 'best performance ever:' his Lazarus makes the pulpy film hum
and snap. "Watching this film may be the closest you'll ever come to seeing
what the blues actually looks like." (Frank Wilkins, ReelTalk)
