Meet Academy Award-nominated producer and Cornell alum Dan Cohen ’05 in conjunction with a free screening of the celebrated indie film The Spectacular Now, a film he co-produced before last year’s acclaimed sci-fi film Arrival, a film he executive produced. Cohen is also an executive producer of the television series “Stranger Things.”
Cohen will talk about his career and introduce The Spectacular Now in which “Miles Teller (Whiplash) and Shailene Woodley (Divergent), as high school seniors Sutter and Aimee, bring such an authentic face of confidence and questioning, indifference and need, pain and denial, friendship and first love, that it will take you back to that time if you're no longer there, and light a path if you are. This particular path is a treacherous one. Sutter and Aimee are forced to navigate the not-so-spectacular now—when teen alcoholism is as much a fact of life as broken and blended families are the norm. They are ordinary kids, bruised in ordinary ways, growing up in an ordinary suburb…. The film is spiked with enough comedy to make it splendidly intoxicating to watch.” (LA Times)
Cohen will also present Bag Man (15 mins), a short film by directors Jonathan & Josh Baker that Cohen is planning to develop into a feature film with actors James Franco, Zoe Kravitz and Dennis Quaid.
