- Hubert Sauper
Director Hubert Sauper (Darwin’s Nightmare) travels to the villages of South Sudan, the world’s newest nation, a land rich in natural resources, and plagued with civil war. Sudan’s people have never profited from the country’s oil riches—a familiar story of capitalism in colonial Africa, and a tradition that persists today with South Sudan’s newest visitors, the Chinese oil workers. Sauper takes in the history and the ominous climate with unflinching honesty, crafting a wrenching portrait of global profiteering at the expense of the local population. Shortlisted for Best Documentary Feature Oscar.
