The Power of Emotion
director:
Alexander Kluge
cast:
Hannelore Hoger, Alexandra Kluge, Edgar Boehlke

One of director Alexander Kluge’s most philosophically probing films, this moving and evocative examination of the fleeting and immaterial nature of emotions is composed as a collage of stories, documentary footage and narrated film essays, detailing, among other intriguing topics, the justice system, the history of opera and the industrial revolution. Shown with artist Stan Douglas’s Monodramas (1991/98, 8 mins), originally broadcast between commercials on Canadian television, these ten short interstitial vignettes simultaneously embrace and disavow dramatic narrative form and feeling.
