- Quentin Tarantino
- Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Eli Roth
Quentin Tarantino casts Brad Pitt as the leader of a pack of Jewish avengers out for Nazi blood in a sprawling tale of good, evil, and wiener schnitzel. Tarantino has called it a “spaghetti western but with World War II iconography” and from the Morricone on the soundtrack to the sweeping shots of the glorious European countryside, the film is clearly an homage to the tough guy antics and gory violence of that stylish movement. It’s also very much a Tarantino film: long, exploitative, joyfully obscene, wickedly clever, and hyperbolically hyperactive. Christoph Waltz won Best Actor at Cannes for his portrayal of the German Colonel who becomes the target of the film’s revenge-hungry heroes.
