RE:Thinking follows three public schools over the course of three years, including Ithaca City School District’s own Lehman Alternative Community School and asks the question, “What if we taught students HOW to think instead of WHAT to think?” The film shows the powerful, positive change that occurs when teachers and students work together to build knowledge instead of memorize information.

The film was inspired by the work of Derek Cabrera (PhD ’06) and Laura Cabrera (BS ’93, MPA ’95, PhD ’98), both professors at the Ithaca-based Systems Thinking Institute and visiting faculty at Cornell University’s Institute for Public Affairs. It takes a systems thinking approach to exploring the complex purposes and goals of education and to imagining what is needed to prepare young people for an uncertain world.

This screening is part of a Worldwide Film Viewing Party by Directed By Women during the month of September. #directedbywomen
