cast:
Maria Mercedes Coroy, Maria Telon, Manuel Antun

On the slopes of an active volcano in Guatemala, a marriage is arranged for 17-year-old Maria by her Kaqchikel-speaking Mayan parents, who work on a coffee plantation. But Maria has other ideas and wonders what she might find on the other side of the volcano. Winner of the Silver Bear at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival, the film is the first made in the Kaqchikel language and was Guatemala’s entry for last year’s Academy Awards, Best Foreign Language Film. “Transporting, hypnotically beautiful, downright Herzogian.” (Variety)
