Johann, a guard at the grand Kunsthistorisches Art Museum, meets Anne, who is visiting Vienna to attend to a family emergency. Johann shepherds Anne around the city, acting as a guide and interpreter. The two quickly strike up a friendship, bonding in their exploration of the city and the museum, looking at paintings by Rembrandt, Bruegel and other European masters. As they reflect on the artwork and the world outside the museum, they subtly examine their own lives in this beautifully shot character study. “This movie is rigorously and intensely lifelike, which is to say that it’s also a strange and moving work of art.” (NY Times)
