- Noah Baumbach
- Greta Gerwig, Mickey Sumner, Adam Driver
She’s not actually a dancer, and she doesn’t actually have an apartment, but Frances lives in New York and apprentices at a dance company as she pursues her dreams. As she moves from place to place, without root or apparent direction, Frances tries to navigate the choppy, unpredictable waters of adulthood. Even though her dreams might be at odds with her reality, she remains one happy girl and proves that success and happiness can have varying definitions. Shot in charming black and white, the film is, as Kenneth Turan of the LA Times writes, “Effortless and effervescent.” Baumbach is at the top of his form, and Gerwig shines in a natural, relatable way that will leave you with a smile and renewed pluck.
