Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
director:
Hayao Miyazaki

In the future, when humans have all but destroyed the earth, Princess Nausicaä struggles to understand the relationship between the few remaining humans and their surroundings. The sudden appearance of an ancient weapon draws Nausicaä’s tribe into conflict. Combatting injustice while trying to promote peace, Princess Nausicaä, of the Valley of the Wind, is an independent and fiercely willed young woman—worthy of holding a place in Miyazaki’s canon of characters. The film prefigures the later Princess Mononoke, also showing in this calendar.
