Beasts of the Southern Wild
Benh Zeitlin
Quvenzhané Wallis, Dwight Henry, Gina Montana

Quvenzhané Wallis stars as Hushpuppy, aged six, who lives with her father, Wink, in the Bathtub, a forgotten, haphazard bayou community floating off the coast of Louisiana. When her father’s health worsens, however, her precarious world—a world once perfectly balanced between imagination and reality—begins to fall apart. Freak storms and melting ice caps cause water levels around Bathtub to rise, and release mythical, prehistoric beasts, frozen for millennia. As her town begins to sink, and with the creatures free to once again roam the land, Hushpuppy sets out to save the only life she knows from destruction. “A stunning debut that finds its dandelion-haired heroine fighting rising tides and fantastic creatures in a mythic battle against modernity.” (Variety)
