In this original coming-of-age movie, 23-year-old Marina views the human race as a foreign species, often imitating the animals she sees in David Attenborough’s nature documentaries instead. Yet, as she prepares for her father’s impending death, Marina begins to venture outside her world of isolation, exploring her sexuality after she meets a visiting engineer. Drawing comparisons to 2010’s Dogtooth, which director Tsangari helped produce, Attenberg was Greece’s submission to the 2012 Oscars for Best Foreign Film. “Tsangari proves she’s one of the freshest voices in European cinema with this offbeat character piece.” (Empire)
