Another original work from the director of the Oscar-nominated Dogtooth, Alps is about an underground group—two men, two women—that offers an unusual service to people who have recently lost a loved one. They inhabit the role of the dearly departed, adopting their mannerisms and wearing their clothes, with the idea of helping their clients through the grieving process. The leader of the group, Mont Blanc, demands discipline from his workers, who seem to be empty vessels waiting to take on their varied roles. When one of them deviates from the system, there are serious consequences. “Like Dogtooth, Alps works by systematically unsettling our sense of what is normal and habitual in human interactions.” (NY Times) Nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
