Long before he sat on the United States Supreme Court or claimed victory in Brown v. Board of Education, Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman) was a young rabble-rousing attorney for the NAACP. Marshall is the true story of his greatest challenge in those early days: defending black chauffeur Joseph Spell, accused by his white employer, Eleanor Strubing, of sexual assault and attempted murder. “Marshall is not a soup-to-nuts biography of one of the most significant figures in U.S. legal history, but a legal potboiler dependent on teamwork. It pays attention to issues of racial, religious and gender discrimination without wavering from its main objective: giving us an entertaining film about a couple of guys who are in way over their heads.” (Matt Zoller Seitz, RogerEbert.com)
