Joel and Ethan Cohen's surprisingly faithful adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's 2005 novel is a stunning masterpiece "about the kind of amoral madness that can sweep across a country and redefine a landscape." (Baltimore Sun) The narrative revolves around 3 central characters that almost never come in direct contact with one another: evil sociopath Anton Chigurh (an exceptional Javier Bardem), disillusioned sheriff Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones), and blue-collar Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin). The setup for this grim story involves Moss finding a drug deal gone bad and a suitcase full of money in the beautiful and brutal West Texas landscape. He takes the suitcase, not knowing that Chigurh has been commissioned to find the suitcase and its contents. The men become involved in a chase, and as the good (Bell) and evil (Chigurh) vie for their respective victories, the decidedly flawed (and most human) Moss gets caught in the fray. "The minutes fly by, leaving behind some unsettling notions about the bloody, absurd intransigence of fate and the noble futility of human efforts to master it. Mostly, though, No Country for Old Men leaves behind the jangled, stunned sensation of having witnessed a ruthless application of craft."
