The first full length documentary to address the impact of 1965, when a U.S.-sponsored military coup deposed Sukarno and installed the military regime of staunchly anti-communist and corrupt pro-market dictator Suharto, Terlena was entirely shot in Indonesia, using exclusively Indonesian testimonies from important political and cultural figures. Intertwining these with historical footage, the film seeks to revisit the past of Indonesia, ask provocative questions and challenge the propaganda of the Suharto years. It also deals with the evidence of US involvement in the events of 1965, as well as with the impact these events have had on the present life of the nation, including the slide toward Muslim domination of Indonesian politics and society. The documentary is filled with traditional and modern music. more at www.millache.org Video projection. Cosponsored with the Southeast Asia Program.
