The 400 Blows

directed by Francois Truffaut

with Jean-Pierre Leaud, Patrick Auffay

A 12-year-old Parisian boy, Antoine Doinel (Leaud), neglected by his mother and step-father, plays truant and takes to petty crime in this classic of French cinema. Truffaut's first feature, based on his own childhood, helped launch the Nouvelle Vague and started a series of films following Doinel through adolescence, marriage, fatherhood and divorce. The freeze frame at the end of the film is one of the most celebrated images in cinema history. 35mm
