The two films on this program deal with activism related to preserving natural space. Winner of a 2005 Jury Prize at the New York Underground Film Festival, Jason Livingston's experimental Under Foot & Overstory (35 mins) weaves together a commitment to activism with a love of looking at the natural world. The Friends of Hickory Hill Park, an Iowa City-based environmental group, work to protect a unique urban space and to define that land, its terms, and sometimes themselves. It will be followed by a work-in-progress screening of David Colle's '05 and Megan Vidler's '06 documenting of the story of Redbud Woods, from its historic origin to its demise. The Woods were razed July 20, 2005 by order of the Cornell administration and a parking lot opened on the site last fall.
